Epitaphs is the third studio album by the Argentinian alternative metal band Melian. Built around the idea that epitaphs are the final summary of the most defining moments in a person’s life, the band explores the notion that each song and its music is the legacy that will outlive us. The album’s visual concept interprets this idea by pairing every track with an image-driven narrative: each artwork becomes a visual “epitaph,” sometimes leaning toward figurative storytelling, other times toward abstraction. The use of digital collage: merging illustration, photography, textures and other visual layers, serves as a metaphor for the emotional richness, memories and intentions that are distilled into a song. As both a musician and composer in the band, the creative process behind Epitaphs was particularly meaningful. Working from a core conceptual idea, shaping it first through lyrics and music, and then translating it into the album’s visual universe—its cover art, packaging, merch and music videos—was a rare opportunity to craft a holistic artistic product. And one I deeply enjoyed bringing to life.
